Damper
A device that regulates airflow in HVAC ductwork by opening or closing to control air volume.
Full Definition
A Damper is a valve or plate that regulates airflow in HVAC ductwork. Dampers can be manual or motorized (actuated) and are used to control air distribution, balance systems, provide fire/smoke protection, or modulate airflow based on zone demand. Types include volume control dampers, fire dampers, smoke dampers, and zone dampers. In building automation systems, motorized dampers are controlled by thermostats or building management systems.
