Building Automation System (BAS)

A centralized control system that monitors and controls building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Full Definition

A Building Automation System (BAS), also called a Building Management System (BMS), is a centralized computer-based control system that monitors and controls a building's mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. BAS integrates HVAC, lighting, security, fire safety, and other systems through sensors, actuators, and controllers. It enables automated control, scheduling, alarms, energy management, and remote monitoring. BAS typically uses communication protocols like BACnet.
