Circuit Breaker
An electrical safety device that automatically interrupts current flow when it exceeds safe levels.
Full Definition
A Circuit Breaker is an automatically operated electrical switch designed to protect electrical circuits from damage caused by overcurrent, short circuits, or ground faults. When a fault is detected, the circuit breaker trips (opens) to interrupt current flow. Circuit breakers can be manually reset after the fault is cleared, unlike fuses which must be replaced. They are found in panelboards, switchboards, and motor control centers.
